In this issue, we sit down with artists living and creating in their time to discuss the ever-evolving nature of contemporary art and its deep roots with traditions. See contemporary art as an expansion and continuity, many artists discuss the definition of art and its relation to artists themselves.
Throughout the issue, artists highlight that the role of the “audience” is a key part of art, in both theory and practice. The role of artist and audience is co-dependent on each other, and the line continues to blur where art is a shared act, embracing different experiences and cultural backgrounds. With different cultural contexts woven into experiences and mediums, artists tend to engage with the world they are living in rather than overruling it. Their works are a reflection of the time they are living in, filled with questions, contradictions, and transformation. In the interview by Claudi Piripippi,” Art is a transformative process,” this sentiment captured the heart of the issue. By the exchange of ideas, pushing boundaries between approaches, artists connect to the roots of human experiences– their collective memory and mutual creation.
